Nestled in the shadows of the famous Thaba-Bosiu Mountain, about 25km from Maseru, lies Mmelesi Lodge - a modern hotel built in the traditional Basotho style. The complex is constructed in sandstone and the roofs are masterfully thatched. The main building consists of a restaurant, a conference room and a bar. Behind the main building are bedrooms. There are 38 rooms in all, (26 chalets/rondavels and 12 Standard rooms) within the premises of the lodge.
In addition to the conference room in the main building, a new conference center has been built, 'Makuena Molapo Hall.
This one is ideal for larger groups. For the outdoor enthusiasts, the lodge has fully functional braai facilities as well as the Mmelesi Lodge Park, right next to the lodge. It is a great venue for various types of events.
Here at Mmelesi Lodge, we are known for the best service that leads to unforgettable experiences for our guests. Thaba-Bosiu itself is a national monument and apart from the incredible sandstone formations surrounding it e.g. Qiloane Rock, it is the burial place of King Moshoeshoe I and II. The mountain is considered sacred and it is the destination of many pilgrims' journey. The tourism office at Thaba-Bosiu has permanent guides, who are well informed and available to take guided tours up and around the mountain.
Behind the main building are 26 neatly constructed chalets and 12 standard rooms. Each bedroom is fully furnished and contains one double and one single bed all of which are en-suite. Each room can accommodate a maximum of three people. The thatch roofing acts as a temperature regulator since it keeps the room cool on hot days and warm when it is cold. However, we provide fans (on request at the reception) if you feel that your room is not as cool as you wish as well as a heater in every room and electric blankets fitted on each bed for extra warmth on those chilly nights.

Should hiking sound too strenuous, ponies and guides are available through the tourism office nearby. Our reception will arrange individual and group trips to suit each guest. Take a ride to Qiloane, a beautiful rock formation from which Basotho hat has been designed and to the caves with Khoisan drawings on.
We are known for the best weddings and ceremonies of various kinds. 'Makuena Molapo Hall houses 130 people in a round table setup. It is suitable for smaller and cozy types of events. For much bigger events, we have the Mmelesi Lodge Park, a neatly manicured amphitheater right next to the lodge. It has a uniquely designed stage built with Lesotho's own sandstone and a thatched roof. Thaba-Bosiu majestically stands behind the park and serves as a breathtaking background for pictures and viewing.
Since May 1992, when its doors were opened, Mmelesi Lodge has always strived to be the provider of the best service in the industry. There are two routes to Mmelesi Lodge, both tarred and the first route is a scenic trip through fields and valleys. It is 7.5 km shorter than the second. 4.3 km from the Catholic Cathedral in Maseru along the Mafeteng road, you turn left. This route crosses the Phuthiatsana river and after further 5.1 km you reach an intersection. At the intersection turn left and 3.6 km further, on your right you will find Mmelesi Lodge.
The second route follows the same Mafeteng exit from Maseru. Instead of turning left, as in the previous route, follow the road south. Turn left at the old Caltex gas station and take the Roma direction. Along this road, about 18.6 km from Maseru is the Makhalanyane trading store. Here turn left again into the Thaba Bosiu road, which takes you 12.1 km further to Mmelesi Lodge.
